In “Engaging Your Child’s Innate Visual Memory”, we will teach you how to activate and develop the powerful learning tool of the visual memory. Studies have shown that the right hemisphere of the brain houses the visual, automatic memory. This is the long-term memory.  Using color, story, and humor, you can unlock amazing learning potential.  This is effective for children who have a difficult time learning and holding on to information they are taught using traditional teaching strategies and for children to whom learning comes easily.  Teaching to the visual memory is often referred to as the “Universal Learning Method”.

These techniques can be used for many areas of learning, including math, test-taking, and college courses. In this workshop, we will focus on the following areas:

  • Spelling – Spelling bee winners can “see” their words in their head. Learn how to make spelling lessons the favorite part of your child’s school day. Give the words enough “glue” to transfer from his weekly spelling tests to his writing assignments.
  • Reading – We consistently see a two-year jump in a child’s reading level when these strategies are used for phonics, sight words, and building the reading vocabulary for reading fluency.
  • Reading comprehension – Remembering and understanding what a child reads becomes much easier when you train her to make a movie of what she reads in her head.
  • Vocabulary – Even your vocabulary lesson becomes an enjoyable event.

Get ready to think outside of the box and open up a whole new learning avenue for your child!

In “Bright, but Struggling to Write”, we will teach you how to identify signs of stress in your child’s Visual/Motor (writing) Processing and exactly what you can do to relieve this stress at home. Many children have difficulty thinking and writing at the same time, because the act of writing takes too much energy for them. Because this is the most common learning issue for gifted children, it often looks like they are just being lazy, over-dramatic (meltdowns), or uncooperative.

A few of the symptoms of a Visual/Motor Processing issues:

  • Reverses letters and/or numbers beyond seven years old (This includes making letters from bottom to top – a vertical reversal.)
  • Mixes capital and lower case letters in writing – often forgets punctuation rules
  • Tells detailed stories orally, but when asked to write it down, writes as little as possible
  • Hates to write – or takes a long time to do so

We will teach you a daily exercise to reduce the stress in the writing system.  It gives a child a solid midline, which internalizes directionality and improves eye/hand coordination.

Imagine writing becoming a non-issue for your child!
